Access Skills in Fiction and Skills in Non-Fiction offers the rigour and support necessary to raise the attainment of students at Level 3, or for those struggling at Level 4 (Level c or D in Scotland).
With a clear and predictable structure, Access is designed to improve students’ level of achievement following Word, Sentence and Text level priorities within the Framework for Teaching English and the Scottish National 5-14 Curriculum.
- Two Students’ Books for each level offer all the support necessary to access top quality fiction and non-fiction texts, allowing students to develop their skills and gain confidence in their writing ability.
- Stimulating texts explore social and moral issues to motivate students and encourage group discussion and interaction with differentiation for students with varying levels of attainment.
- Strategies for encouraging students to discuss themes and teaching points are given in starter and plenary suggestions, with extra emphasis on helping lower ability students with writing assignments.
- Offers suggestions for delivery of activities from all 36 sections in the two student books, including Speaking and Listening, and Drama.
- Provides carefully levelled extra practice in the basic skills and writing frames for the extended writing assignments with photocopiable copymasters at Word, Sentence and Text levels.
