Course Description
Aim
Students will examine issues such as the interaction between religion and science, and also explore religious experience and the philosophical aspects of religious belief. They will gain an understanding of how to approach the study of religion as an academic discipline as well as be able to practice valuable text criticism skills, developed by studying the new Testament.
Relevance
Religious Studies is designed to help students consider the fundamental questions of human existence and develop a better understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of religious texts.
Students will also find the skills they develop through studying via a distance learning methodology will benefit them enormously in later life, whether at university or in their chosen careers.
Assessment
AS level: three written examinations.
Informal assessment is continuous by regular marked assignments set by the tutor.
Entry Requirements
GCSE mean score of 5.5, including English at grade C or above.
