Course Description
Aim
- AS level Critical Thinking develops students' ability to interpret, analyse and evaluate ideas and arguments.
- Students' intellectual and argumentative skills are improved throughout the course as ideas and beliefs are discussed and debated.
- The materials read and discussed during the AS level Critical Thinking increase the general knowledge and vocabulary of the students.
Relevance
- AS level Critical Thinking trains the mind and generates skills that apply to all other areas of academic study and lifelong learning.
- Critical Thinking is a fundamental academic competency akin to reading and writing, and a necessary ability for success in higher education.
- The ability to evaluate arguments rationally and to reason intelligently is invaluable and can give students an added advantage in everyday contemporary life.
Assessment
AS level: two written examinations.
Informal assessment is continuous throughout AS by regular marked assignments set by the tutor.
Entry Requirements
GCSE mean score of 5.5, including English Language at Grade C or above.
