Course Description

Aim

The course introduces students to the civilisations of ancient Greece and Rome through the study of classic works. They will gain the ability to critically analyse and evaluate works of art within their historical context and learn about influential works of classical artists and their enduring influence upon civilisation.

Relevance

The course will help students develop a better understanding of how ancient spiritual, moral and cultural values helped shape modern life.

Students will also find the skills they develop through studying via a distance learning methodology will benefit them enormously in later life, whether at university or in their chosen careers.

Assessment

AS level: three written examinations.


Informal assessment is continuous by regular marked assignments set by the tutor.

Entry Requirements

GCSE mean score of 5.5, including English at grade C or above.
