Level: AS
Awarding Body: AQA
The AS level modules includes:
Module 1 Atomic Structure
Module 2 Foundation Physical and Inorganic Chemistry
Module 3 Introduction to Organic Chemistry/Practical Exam
Course Description
The course builds on the chemical concepts introduced in Dual Award Science or GCSE Chemistry, providing an opportunity to study them in more detail. At AS level, the content introduces organic chemistry, i.e the properties and reactions of carbon based compounds, and the rates of reaction and chemical equilibrium.
Relevance
Students gain an invaluable insight and understanding into interlinking patterns of elements and how these can be seen and used everyday. Many careers require a solid understanding of Chemistry, such as biochemist, doctor, dentist, forensic scientist, and this course therefore enables students to meet that need.
Assessment
AS Level: three written examinations. Module 3 includes a two-hour practical examination
Entry Requirements
GCSE mean score of 5.5 including at least CC in Dual Award Science or Grade C in Chemistry, and a minimum C grade in Maths
