SciQuiz
- Compatibility
SciQuiz only works with Internet Explorer 4.0 or later on PCs, as these browsers
support Dynamic html. If your browser does not support dynamic HTML or is an
Apple Macintosh browser, you will not be able to access SciQuiz directly,
and opening the Quiz using Windows Explorer will lead to errors.
It is not possible to play SciQuiz without using frames - opening frames in
a different browser window will cause errors.
Hitting the reload key while SciQuiz is playing causes the whole Browser window
to reload, clears the test, and will cause errors. Solution: do not hit the
reload key while the quiz is playing.
- Accessibility
SciQuiz is fully accessible to keyboard users on pcs. It is possible to choose
answers using the keyboard (A, B, C, and D), as well as by clicking on the
correct answers with the mouse.
Known Incompatibilities

Rollovers
Scinet makes extensive use of rollovers - when a mouse moves over a hotspot,
or the keyboard switches focus to a hotspot, this triggers an animation. In
some cases, the rollover is also a link, which can be clicked to go to a new
page. This is indicated in the normal way, with the cursor changing to a
pointing finger. In other cases, there is no link, in which case the cursor
stays as the default pointer in Internet Explorer 4.0.
Rollovers were made backwards compatible with Netscape 3.0 and 4.0. In both browsers
rollovers will always have a finger cursor, whether or not the rollover leads to
a new page. Clicking on an unlinked rollover may cause the cursor to change to
the hourglass wait cursor, but no action will occur.
- SciQuiz Sound
Windows 95/NT 4.0 Active Desktop (Windows Desktop Update)
If you choose to install the Windows Desktop Update (Active Desktop)
with Internet Explorer 4.0, two sound effects may be added that are
not compatible with the Sound Effects in sciquiz.
If you want to play the Sound Effects in the Quiz, you can turn off
these Sound Effects by going to "Control Panel - Sound",
finding the "Explorer - start navigation" and "finish navigation" sounds,
and setting them to "none".
Windows 3.1
Sound does not play - if you choose to play Sound you will get an error.
Solution: do not check the Play Sound box on the SciQuiz front screen.
Windows NT 3.51
SciNet has not been checked for compatibility with Windows NT 3.51.
