Using sugars

The first products of photosynthesis are sugar molecules. These can be used by the plant to provide energy for other processes. Energy is released from sugars by respiration.

Some of the sugar made each day is converted to starch to be stored inside the plant.

It is stored in the leaves during the day. At night the starch is turned into sugar and moved to other parts of the plant to be stored.
