Photosynthesis

Green plants make their own food. Photosynthesis is the process which plants use to make food.

They use carbon dioxide gas from the air. They also use water from the soil. They make sugars from these substances. The sugars are used as food by the plant. Oxygen is also made by this process.

Photosynthesis happens mostly in cells in the leaves. Light energy is needed to make the process happen so it can only go on during the daytime.
