Wind and water loss

Plants lose water from their leaves by transpiration. If too much water is lost the plant may wilt.

The rate of water loss is affected by air movement.

On windy days, the breeze blows damp air away from the plant. This allows more water to evaporate from inside the leaves, and leave through the stomata.

Plants lose more water and may wilt.
