Sulphur

Sulphur is a yellow brittle solid. It is found in volcanoes and hot springs. It is an important element in living things. Sulphur was known in ancient times. It was recognised as an element by Lavoisier in 1777.

Sulphur is used in making gun powder, rubber and fertilisers. It is also used to make sulphuric acid, from which many other materials are made.
