Potassium

Potassium is a silvery white alkali metal. It is an important element in the diet. Plants need it too. It is very reactive and ignites when put in water. It was first isolated in 1808 by Humpkrey davey.

Potassium is used in 'low sodium salt' by people who have to reduce their sodium intake. It is an important element in fertilisers.
