Iodine

Iodine is a bluish black solid. It is a member of the Halogen group. It turns to a vapour when heated. It was discovered in 1811 by Bernard Courtois in france. He obtained iodine from seaweed.

Iodine is an important nutrient in food. It may be added to salt. Silver iodide is used in photography.
