Hydrogen

Hydrogen is a colourless gas. It is the lightest element and the most common in the universe. It was discovered by Henry Cavendish in England in 1766.

Hydrogen is present in water and is essential for all living things. It is used in industry to make ammonia, and many other compounds.

It is used in rocket fuel, and in welding.
