Chlorine

Chlorine is a greenish yellow gas which has a strong smell. It reacts easily with other elements to make compounds. It was discovered in 1770 by Carl Scheele in sweden.

Chlorine kills micro organisms. It is used in bleach. It is added to drinking water to make it safe to drink. It is an important element and is used to make many products including paper, plastics, paints, medicines, foods and insecticides.
