Argon

Argon is one of the 'noble' gases. It does not react with other elements to make compounds. It was discovered in 1894 by Lord rayleigh.

Argon is used in electric light bulbs and flourescent tubes. Because it is unreactive, it is used to provide a protective environment for arc welding and growing silicon crystals to make computer chips.
