Potential Difference

Electric cells

A cell contains chemicals which react. The reaction in simple cells takes electrons from one end (positive) and pushes them to the other (negative).

We often call single cells 'batteries'. A real battery is made from several cells joined together.

When cells are connected in a circuit, they create a potential difference across the components and a current of electrons flows. Adding more cells increases the potential difference.
