Speakers

A speaker is made from a magnet and a coil of wire. Electric current flows through the coil, making it an electromagnet. The electromagnet is pushed or pulled by the permanent magnet. The current in the coil changes direction many times a second. The coil moves in and out very quickly.

A paper cone attatched to the coil vibrates as it moves in and out. This sends sounds waves out into the air.

Different sounds are made by changes in the electric current through the coil.
