Charging up
Insulators can become charged when rubbed. We call this charge
'static'. When you rub a polythene rod with a cloth, the polythene
pulls electrons from the cloth. The rod becomes negatively
charged.
When you rub a perspex rod with a cloth, the cloth pulls
electrons from the perspex. The rod becomes positively charged.
There are forces between charged
rods. Unlike charges repel.
