Small intestine
The inside of the small intestine is covered with small projections.
They are like tiny fingers. Each one is called a villus. Each
villus contains a network of capillaries.
The digested food substances
are absorbed through the wall of the small intestine in
to the blood. The villi make a large surface for food to pass
across.
Substances in food which are not digested and absorbed pass
into the large intestine.
