Large intestine

The large intestine is part of the digestive system. It is a long muscular tube, which follows on from the small intestine.

The substances from food which are left over after digestion pass into this tube.

There is a lot of water in this mixture of substances. This water is absorbed through the wall of the intestine into the blood.

The more solid substance left passes into the rectum.
