Bernard was a Physics teacher in Manchester university.
He was interested in studying radio
signals coming from objects in space.
He built a giant radio telescope in 1956 which could be pointed
to anywhere in the sky. This was used to track satellites
and space craft, and to observe many radio galaxies.
