The group is made up of representatives of the national tourist boards for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Britain and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. You can access a wide range of statistical data about tourism in the UK, including information about the origin of overseas visitors, top tourist attractions in the UK etc.You could use this site to produce a UK version of Table G on page 231 of the pupil’s book.

The following statement was taken from the Tourism Concern website “Sustainable tourism means more than just eco-tourism. To be truly sustainable, tourism also should not harm local communities.” – explain what this means (pages 242 and 243 in the pupil’s book will help you).

Their aim "is to help widespread the understanding of our environment and importance of our environments biodiversity, by sharing secrets and mysteries surrounding us and our world". They are committed to rain forest conservation. This site includes some useful information about the characteristic features of Tropical Rainforests, as well as a collection of rainforest photos used to promote their holiday programmes. The site is also very useful to use later in the unit as an example of ecotourism and the possibility of sustainable development of the rainforest.
