River mapwork activities - page 11

Click on the link to the Multimap website, once you have read the following instructions.
http://www.multimap.com/

1. Use the search engine on the site to locate the same area shown in the two 1:50 000 map extracts. The best place names to use in the search are Hawes and Caerleon. Make sure you select the big map tab from Multimap, and that you have a good match with the extracts provided in the pupil’s book.
2. Copy and paste each map into a DTP file.
3. Use the software tools to annotate the maps with the labels provided in activity 2a) on page 11. You can also label your ideas for activity 2b) onto the maps in the DTP file.
4. If you have time you could repeat the activity but this time annotating aerial photographs of the same areas, by clicking on the aerial photograph button on Multimap to convert the map into a photograph.
5. If you click on the overlay map button on Multimap, you can view the aerial photograph with a moveable OS map overlay, a great way to improve your map skills, when interpreting river landscapes.
