Focus on Key Skills

The Focus on Key Skills pages in the third edition of Geography: An Integrated Approach are written to provide you with opportunities to produce evidence for the Key Skills Certificate. The Key Skills of Application of Number, Communication, and Information Technology, together form the Key Skills Certificate, which identifies the level achieved in each Key Skill. Examples of your work are identified and tracked as a ‘portfolio’ to show the evidence needed for the Key Skills Certificate. You will also need to complete a set assignment.

The other three Key Skills (Improving Own Learning and Performance, Working with Others, and Problem Solving) can also be accredited but only as individual units.

The activities in Geography: An Integrated Approach can be used to provide evidence for the Key Skills to Level 3. See the Focus on Key Skills on page 101 for Communication, page 259 for Information Technology, and page 387 for Application of Number. Remember though that one piece of work can provide evidence for more than one Key Skill.

The activities provided can be used as individual tasks to support Key Skill development, or as a completed piece of evidence towards a Key Skills portfolio, or as a learning vehicle to consider the Geography content of the material.
