Chapter 6 Coasts

The LOIS study of the Holderness coastline:

The Land Ocean Interaction Study (LOIS), funded by NERC, examines the role of fluvial and marine processes in the everyday life of the Holderness coastline (including Spurn Head). The website has excellent scientific text, photos and graphics, and Teachers’ Information Notes are available.

Geology and Geomorphology of the East Yorkshire coast:

A lovely site for exploring the geography and geology of a stretch of English coastline. The varied content (still under development, April 2000) includes Spurn Point, Scarborough, former alum quarrying at Sandsend and a buried paleo-cliff at Sewerby. There are also some interesting external links!

MAFF flood and coastal defence programme:

One of the less informative MAFF sites, this website offers a brief overview of the national flood and coastal defence programme, some details of current capital projects, R&D abstracts, a search facility and links to lists of MAFF publications available for purchase.
