Teaching Refugee Children
As dispersal is promoted there may be many more teachers using this pack who have refugee children in their class. This can present opportunities, but also demands sensitivity. Teaching about refugee issues can create opportunities to recognise the experiences of refugee children and to value their input. Using specific examples to reflect the diversity of your class or area may also be useful.
If in doubt, speak to the child/children separately before tackling a specific issue to make sure they are not caused distress, and/or consult with support staff in school or the LEA. References and links to help you teach refugee children appear at the end of this introduction.
