Cross Curricular Ideas
PSHE
The PSHE section 'Developing good relationships and respecting the differences between people', in the non-statutory guidance, provides many opportunities to link with this project.
Geography
There are general links with much of the curriculum for Geography but this project also links with several specific areas. In Section 3, 'Knowledge and understanding of places', students should be taught to explain how and why changes happen in places, and the issues that arise from these changes (3d), and to explore the idea of global citizenship (3e). In Section 6, outlining the breadth of study, theme 6f refers to the causes and effects of changes in the population of regions and countries, including migration.
History
The most obvious link is with the skills of historical enquiry and organisation and communication. Other areas where this project will fit with History include Section 2b, in which students are expected to be taught about the social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity of the societies studied, both in Britain and the wider world, as well as links between local, British, European and world history (2d). In the 'Breadth of study' section, this unit would link well with aspects of Section 13 'World study after 1900'.
English
This project offers broad links with the opportunities in the English curriculum to develop speaking and listening skills. A more specific link is with Point 4 of the 'Reading' section, which refers to the use of print and ICT-based information texts.
Art/Drama/Dance
These areas can all be used within this unit to encourage students to share the work they have undertaken and express their reaction to it.
