When did Buddhism begin?

What is Buddhism?

2,500 years ago – Buddhism is the third oldest of the six major religions. It began in what is now India. It was founded by Siddhartha Gotama, who took the title the Buddha, meaning ‘The Enlightened One’.

Buddhists do not believe in a God. Buddhism teaches that people can come to understand the real meaning of existence for themselves.
