Web Developer (Marketing)

iTutorMaths is a new online service providing live GCSE Maths lessons to students across the UK. We are an online business offering a brand new type of service and are working hard to get our marketing message out there. We’re looking for a web developer to manage the content and graphical aspects of our key marketing tool – the iTutorMaths website.

Reporting to the Digital Brand Manager the role is based in the Cheltenham offices and will work closely with our marketing and SEO suppliers as well as the iTutorMaths technical software development team in Newcastle.

Our website is iTM’s direct interface with customers and needs great attention to detail as well as creative and exciting content. You’ll need a good understanding of testing and release cycles too, and be willing to take responsibility for presenting iTutorMaths in an exciting and informative manner as well as a positive and professional one.

This is an exciting and developing role with plenty of challenges and a chance to join a small, fast-moving new online service team.

Role attributes:

  • Ability to create and maintain web pages using current best-practice HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Good Photoshop (or equivalent) skills to create and modify image assets, and translate mock-up designs into functional HTML/CSS.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and drive – you will be part of a busy and hard-working marketing team.
  • Creative and design skills – confident in creating and presenting concepts.
  • Good planning and organisational skills: the ability to plan, execute and manage processes and projects.
  • An eye for detail and accuracy – what we present on our website has to be right.
  • Understanding of SEO principles and business use of social media.
  • Programming experience with HTML5/AJAX and PHP would be beneficial but not necessary.

Human Resources Administrator

Nelson Thornes is a leading publisher of educational materials. We now have an opportunity for a HR Administrator working within a small HR team of 4 people, reporting into the Head of HR.

This role will provide an administrative role for the HR department – Supporting the HR team activities and assisting with employee queries. Your duties will include:

  • Acting as a frontline contact for employee queries and provide guidance where appropriate.
  • As the Systems Administrator, ensuring that the integrated HR/Payroll system is updated as appropriate and access levels are protected in order to ensure the security of the system.
  • Ensuring that the administrative function for the HR department runs in a streamlined and effective way.
  • Acting as the conduit between HR and Finance to ensure that Payroll information is accurate.
  • Producing accurate statistics and HR Management Information on a monthly and ad hoc basis including headcount/FTE reporting.
  • Monitoring sickness levels for all employees and calculate sickness deductions on a monthly basis.
  • Administering the purchase order process and ensuring appropriate authorisation is sought to enable timely payment.

To succeed in this role you will have an understanding of the requirements and implications, including the level of confidentiality required when working in a HR team. You will have excellent administration and IT skills in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and database use. You will demonstrate a good standard of English and Maths. Experience of working in a similar role would be preferable.

Inventory Controller

Nelson Thornes is part of Europe's largest Educational Publishing organisation, providing services to schools and colleges across the world. We are looking for an Inventory Controller to take ownership of an extensive backlist of published products. Reporting to Head of Customer Support, you will be the single point of contact for all queries relating to the Nelson Thornes stock list ensuring all departments are kept informed about stock levels and product availability. The successful candidate will; work closely with production, publishing and distribution to ensure continuous supply of all stock. You will also analyse inventory report information in order to determine titles requiring reprint and pro actively work to enhance and develop the inventory control process.

Educated to degree level or equivalent the successful candidate should have a minimum of 3 years inventory control experience preferably within a publishing environment, however we will also consider candidates with relevant inventory control experience from related and non publishing sectors. You will possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A high level of numeracy and good IT skills are also required. A working knowledge of Business Objects although not a prerequisite would be considered advantageous.

Commissioning Editor – Vocational

We now have an exciting position opening within our Publishing department . As a Commissioning Editor you will be responsible for enabling the delivery of the vocational publishing programme through both the commissioning of new print and electronic products and services, and the adaptation of existing products and services across, potentially, a range of subject areas.

1. Commissioning

  • Locate and negotiate with authors and, commission print and electronic products for the relevant market according to strategy, budget and trading margin criteria.
  • Propose and plan adaptation of existing print or electronic assets to support the publishing strategy and programme in line with customers’ needs.
  • Use sound planning and project management skills to develop detailed, coherent and realistic product specifications/briefs.
  • Support project teams, while keeping overall responsibility, to ensure the delivery of all products according to agreed budgets and schedules.
  • Articulate the customer value proposition for designated projects, focusing on key benefits, identifying the reason to believe and clarifying why it’s better than alternatives.
  • Prepare and complete project investment documents for all products according to strategic and annual budget requirements.
  • Act as sponsor or principal point of contact for particular projects/lists

2. Contribution to Strategy

  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of competitor activity and the major issues facing teachers and learners at the relevant level to support assigned projects/lists through regular contact with key stakeholders
  • Contribute to future strategy and publishing programme required to meet the strategy in collaboration with the vocational publisher
  • Liaise with International Department colleagues to identify International vocational opportunities in re-using home products/assets

You must be degree-educated or equivalent plus have recent vocational publishing experience which demonstrates the key role attributes of :

  • Solid and wide understanding of the Vocational educational system and market and associated teaching and learning methods.
  • Practical experience in an editorial role within book and electronic publishing, and working knowledge of publishing processes.
  • Knowledge of production (print and electronic) an advantage.
  • Some knowledge of International education market an advantage.
