Publishing Manager, Humanities & Social Sciences

We’re looking for a talented publishing professional to lead our Humanities and Social Science publishing and development team. You will take full responsibility for the strategic planning and development of your portfolio. You will manage and motivate Commissioning Editors and Development Editors, providing clear decision making, prioritisation and leadership, and ensure projects are published on time and to budget.

Working closely with our strategic partners including AQA, our customers and our in-house development teams you will drive the application of the company strategy to your portfolio and projects and deliver compelling learning resources for the UK market.

You’re likely to have a sound track record of commercially successful publishing, including commissioning. You should also be able to demonstrate a track record of people management, commercial acumen, author and/or supplier management, list development, planning and problem solving.

This permanent role is based in Cheltenham. Benefits include a generous car allowance or company car, company bonus, non-contributory pension, market leading employee assistance programme and childcare vouchers.

Production Editors
Are you passionate about pre-press and production, and looking for your next challenge? Nelson Thornes is one of the UK’s leading educational publishers, producing teaching and learning solutions from Primary through to Higher Education. We offer blended learning resources, combining both high quality traditional print and new innovative interactive resources.

We currently have Production Editor opportunities in our friendly pre-press department, producing educational books for subjects across the curriculum. We welcome applications from people with degrees / subject expertise in any subject but expertise in any of the following areas would be an advantage: French, German, Spanish, Science or Maths. You may be an experienced editor or a talented graduate. Whatever your background, if you’re supremely organised and have an excellent editorial eye for detail then we’d like to hear from you.

As a Production Editor you’ll manage all stages of the editorial and pre-press process including liasing with editors, typesetters and other external suppliers to deliver new books within time and cost constraints. If you have a good understanding of the print production process, strong project management and enjoy working to deadlines and budgets this could be the role for you. Ideally you will have strong organisational, communication and influencing skills and be comfortable working on your own initiative.

Educational Sales Representative York / Selby
15-20K, bonus, car, 14 weeks’ holiday p.a.

Working during term-time only, you will develop relationships with primary and secondary schools, selling and promoting our range of blended learning resources. Successful candidates are likely to have excellent IT and sales skills, and will be able to demonstrate online resources to groups of teachers. You will be assertive, well organised and sensitive to the needs of customers. We will support you with product and sales training. We are keen to hear from experienced salespeople as well as trainees with potential.

Instructional Designer
Are you passionate about transforming the way students learn in schools? If so, then help us create the most compelling electronic products available for students and teachers on the educational market today.

We’re looking for talented people to join us on our journey to the top. We need dedicated individuals with strong advisory, planning and influencing skills and customer focus to drive the specification and development of innovative blended learning products that meet the needs of pupils and teachers. Working within cross-functional teams, you’ll take a leading role in shaping and developing our electronic products. Essential to this role is a track record of instructional design, in the education or related markets.

The ideal candidate will be educated to at least degree level and demonstrate excellent organisational skills, handling multiple projects and solving complex and diverse issues. In addition to this you will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the UK education market. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to brief and work with external suppliers, ensuring our electronic products are delivered on time and to budget.

This role would suit you if you’re an experienced e-producer or you’ve previously worked on a proven portfolio of educationally-based electronic products where instructional design skills have been essential.

e-Content Editor
We’re looking for talented individuals to help us bring learning to life for students and teachers worldwide.

You will work with authors and colleagues to develop electronic resources, delivering to an agreed specification, schedule and budget. You will be responsible for tracking and driving forward large numbers of electronic components that make up our next wave of market-leading e-learning products.

These roles require exceptional organisational and planning skills and would suit highly methodical and meticulous individuals. Ideally, you will have e-learning, editorial, multimedia or publishing skills. However, if you are bright, exceptionally organised and have a superb editorial eye for detail, coupled with a passion for education, then we’d like to hear from you.
