Open your eyes to employment

Over the last couple of years we’ve been taking a fresh look at the ‘employment experience’. Not only have we explored and introduced new benefits, we’ve made Nelson Thornes a great place to work. It is our declared aim to become the publishing employer of choice.

Cheltenham is within easy commuting distance from Oxford, Bristol and Birmingham and many of our staff do just that and have flexible working arrangements, including flexible hours and homeworking where appropriate. However, there are lots of reasons why you should seriously consider relocating - explore our new lifestyle section and discover more!

As well as all the usual benefits, we provide in-house yoga, free face to face counselling for all staff, weekly sports clubs, relocation packages, free access to legal and financial advice, away days, superb offices in the centre of town,
in-house Indian head massage, a free staff car park in the centre of town, flexible working and life insurance. We also provide childcare vouchers that can save staff £800- £1000 per year.

Our staff development is pretty good too. Training requests are rarely turned down and we’ve quadrupled our training provision. The average Nelson Thornes employee receives over 6 days of learning per year and this is set to increase as we continue to invest in our staff.

We are pleased to say that our staff turnover is at its lowest since the 1990s and is way below the industry average.
We’ve implemented career paths schemes for publishing staff which maps career progression, ensuring you receive support tailored to your needs. This year will also see the implementation of a management development programme, leadership programme and a Europe-wide talent management programme.
