About Fast Lane Books

The Fast Lane series of books originates from Australia. Its finely graded fiction and non-fiction titles have been developed to support guided reading and reading development.

Fast Lane books have been extensively researched and developed to meet the literacy needs of all pupils. The scheme has been trialed with the following groups:

  • Pupils with learning difficulties
  • Pupils who are disengaged
  • Pupils who require further reading practice
  • Pupils from a low and high socio-economic background for whom English is a Second Language (ESL)
  • Pupils from a low and high socio-economic background with an English Speaking Background (ESB)

Fast Facts!

  • Finely graded books ranging from level 6 to 25 (book bands yellow to emerald)
  • Texts have a new word ratio of 1:16 (including technical vocabulary that is strongly reinforced)
  • 71 fiction and 71 non-fiction texts ranging from reading age 51/2 to 9
  • Each book is 16 to 24 pages, giving pupils a sense of achievement once completed
