Course Description
How do we know what is good? Do we have freewill? Could a robot ever be a person? Should we tolerate the intolerant? AS and A2 Philosophy enables students to ask wide-ranging and fundamental questions like these, and to question what is often taken for granted in other subjects.
Students taking Philosophy develop the skills of rational argument, clarity of thought and analysis of complex topics.
Oral discussion, arguing a case in regular written assignments, and careful reading of philosophical arguments all form important parts of the course. At A2 students also study a philosophical text, Plato's Repulic, which brings together different philosophical themes.
