Orange Levels 15 and 16

Within the Orange Level PM and PM Plus Story Books, new high frequency words continue to be introduced at a gentle rate and those encountered in earlier levels (could, everywhere and when) are reinforced. Three-syllable words are introduced, and this level offers opportunities for teaching children how to break difficult words down into smaller parts or syllables. At this stage, readers
become aware of story structure, and are able to discuss it and become inspired to write their own stories. Readers also encounter several favourite characters from earlier levels, such as Chug the Tractor, Clare and Abby.

The PM Traditional Tales and Plays have a familiar, repetitive structure, promoting fluency and expression and helping children to read with confidence. The origins of the folk stories are reflected
in the illustrations – The Tale of the Turnip is Russian and Goldilocks and the Three Bears is Scandinavian. At this level, children learn the differences between fantasy and realistic fiction.
